Suttons Runner Bean Enorma

Short-jointed plants producing an enormous crop of very long, smooth, slender beans of excellent shape and colour. Great beginner variety. RHS Award of Garden Merit winner.

Sow in pots or trays on a windowsill or in a greenhouse using a good quality compost. Cover seeds with 38mm of xcompost. Germination takes 7-14 days. Grow on, planting outside or protecting with cloches until frost risk has passed. Alternatively sow direct into warm, moist soil prepared by digging and raking. Erect canes or netting to eventually support plants, sowing one seed per can or at 15-23cm intervals along the rwo at a depth of 50mm. Grows best in rich, well prepared soil. Conserve moisture by mulching with manure, straw or a layer of grass clippings. Water well during dry weather and when plants are flowering, spray flowers with water to assist setting.
