A superb British-bred variety with attractive red-veined leaves, good vigour and a wonderful peppery taste. Plants are bolt-resistant, so don’t run to seed, allowing you to keep picking the leaves over a long period.
Sow thinly Mar-Aug into a finely raked seedbed at a depth of 6-13mm and cover lightly with soil. Germination usually takes 7 days. Transfer seedlings when large enough to handle allowing 20cm between plants. Use the thinnings in salads. Water well during spells of dry weather. Grows best in well cultivated soil in a sunny position. Can also be grown on a windowsill indoors September-March.
