Bred for extra sweetness, Ruby has dark purple-skinned globe shaped roots with creamy yellow flesh and is a really useful winter vegetable. A high dry matter content ensures excellent winter hardiness and it also shows good resistance to Powdery Mildew.
Sow thinly into finely raked, moist, warm, weed free soil at a depth of 13mm in rows 45cm apart. Germination takes 6-10 days. Thin seedlings by degrees to 20cm between plants. Grows best in well cultivated soil in an open position. Lime if necessary. Twist off tops when harvesting.
